Basic Differences Between Waxing & Electrolysis
You work hard on your body and want to look good on the beach. When it comes to removing unwanted body hair, it’s common to use waxing, Brazilian waxing, or electrolysis. If you’re considering Brazilian waxing Staten Island or electrolysis Staten Island, here’s what you should know about the differences between them:
- Permanent hair removal Staten Island vs. Temporary: Waxing will completely remove any hair where the wax is applied but will leave behind the follicle that the hair grows from. This means the hair will eventually grow back, and the process must be repeated to keep the area hairless.
On the other hand, electrolysis eliminates the hair follicle itself, so the hair will not grow back.
- Risk of Bumps vs. No Bumps: If you’ve seen waxing done, you can see that the wax is removed “against the grain” of the hair. This means that the hair is removed in the opposite direction from which it naturally grows. This can twist or adjust the position of the hair follicle. When that hair does begin to grow back, this can result in ingrown hairs.
There is no danger of ingrown hairs with electrolysis because the follicle itself is terminated, so there’s no new hair growth to cause bumps or irritation.
- Smooth Forever vs. Hairier: Each hair follicle has a capillary that delivers blood to it so the hair can grow. Waxing removes the hair thoroughly but also stimulates blood flow to the area. This is similar to your skin turning red if it gets pinched or smacked. While it will take up to one-and-a-half months for the hair to grow back, the added blood flow can create thicker hair.
Electrolysis works by terminating the blood flow to the follicle. This “starves” the follicle, and it dies. An area treated with electrolysis will no longer have hair follicles in it and will remain smooth and hairless for years.
